Privacy Policy

EV Pilot ("we", "us", "the app") is an electric-vehicle trip planning app for Indian roads, published by Tricknowtech, India. This policy explains what data EV Pilot collects, why, and what control you have over it.
1. What we collect
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number or Google email | Sign-in | Identify your account — one or the other, never both required |
| Vehicle details (make/model, odometer, battery %) | You enter them, or connect an OBD adapter | Route and charge-stop planning accuracy |
| Trip plans and routes | When you create a plan | Save your plans, show them again later |
| Location | While planning a route or on an active trip, only with permission | Nearby chargers, routing, measuring a trip in progress |
| Charging/trip telemetry summaries | Only if you opt in | Improve charger reliability data, ratings, savings estimates |
| Photos (charger check-ins) | Only if you add one | Show other drivers what a station looks like |
| Calendar events | Only if you opt in — on-device only | Trip suggestions; never sent to our servers |
| Crash/diagnostic logs | Automatically | Fix bugs |
We do not collect payment details, government ID numbers, or precise location when the app is closed and no trip is active.
2. Telemetry is off by default
EV Pilot uses a tiered consent model, and every account starts at Tier 0 (off):
- Tier 0 (default): no trip/charging data leaves your device beyond what's needed to show you the app itself.
- Tier 1: anonymized trip and charging summaries help us improve route and range accuracy.
- Tier 2: adds charging-session detail, enabling automatic station "check-ins" (visible as station activity, not tied to your identity).
- Tier 3: adds GPS traces, used only for route-quality research.
You choose your tier in Settings, can change it any time, and see exactly what each tier means before opting in.
3. Your OBD adapter connection is read-only
If you connect a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter, EV Pilot only ever reads diagnostic data (state of charge, range, battery health signals) — it never writes to your vehicle's systems. The set of diagnostic requests it can send is fixed in the app and cannot be widened by any server update or downloaded profile.
4. Deleting your data
Settings → Delete my data permanently removes your telemetry and trip history from our servers, including from backups on their next rotation. Deleting your account removes your profile data too. Available in-app — no need to email support. If you no longer have the app installed, see how to request deletion by email instead.
5. Who we share data with
- Never sold. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
- Map/place providers (Google Places, OpenStreetMap, Foursquare): queried for public place information when you view a charger or amenity; we only store their content within the limits their terms allow.
- Firebase (Google): used for sign-in and push notifications. See Google's privacy policy.
- Toll/FASTag data shown in the app is public reference data; we do not process toll payments ourselves.
6. Your rights (India's DPDP Act)
If you're in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act gives you the right to access, correct, and erase your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. Sections 2 and 4 above cover how to do this in-app.
7. Children
EV Pilot is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
8. Changes to this policy
We'll update the date above when this policy changes, and notify you in-app for material changes.
